Building a Home Theatre 101

Being one of those who enjoy watching movies from the comfort of their own home doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t simultaneously have the theatre experience. Nowadays, it doesn’t take much effort or money to build your own cinema, as it did several years back. All you need is a reasonably-sized budget, a bit of free time and imagination, and you can easily watch your favourite movies on the big screen without leaving your home. Here are several steps and tips you need to follow in order to create cinematic ambient in your house.

Location

There are several aspects that have to be taken into consideration when deciding on the ideal room for your home theatre. The space you choose should be completely dark, since you don’t want the reflection of the light ruin your experience. The basement is the perfect place if you have one available. However, if you don’t, you can opt for any room you don’t use right now, and equip it with the blackout curtains that will prevent the light from coming in. Another relevant factor is insulation, as it ensures good acoustics and reduces the noise.

Decoration and Furnishing

Having chosen the location, you can move on to decorating and furnishing your theatre. When it comes to the paint, red is the eternal classic, but you can go with any other colour you like. If you decide on having monochrome walls, you can decorate them with posters of your favourite movies, which are not hard to get, owing to the perks of online shopping. The next step is furnishing the room, and this should be thought through with care. You should position the armchairs (or sofas if they are more to your liking) so that everybody can see the screen, and make sure that they are neither too close nor too far from it. The screen shouldn’t be placed too high, since then it will cause the neck pain.

Equipment

Obtaining home theatre equipment of high quality will require considerable amount of money, but you won’t regret spending a dime. Before purchasing sound system and a TV or a screen, you can browse the Internet to see what’s on the market and within your budget limits. When deciding on the audio system, there are several factors to be considered, such as the acoustics of your room, speaker configuration, the placement, speaker strength, and whether you need the amplifier or not.

You should avoid placing speakers within furniture, since this will muff the sound. Finally, choosing a TV set is probably one of the most important decisions when building a home theatre. There are different types of TVs available and you should think carefully about which one will meet your needs.  If you find TV installation challenging, you can watch a tutorial or contact a company that will help you out. Installing and positioning the TV is of utmost importance, since it will affect your view and overall experience if not done properly.

Setting up a home cinema is not an easy job. You’ll have to put some money aside and devote yourself to doing it right. However, once you’re done, you’ll be able to enjoy your personal theatre with your friends any time you want.
